What to expect at your first dermatology appointment

istock 512995491 1 Scheduling an appointment with a new medical professional can make some patients uneasy. Perhaps they’ve only worked with their primary care physician and are unsure what is involved in visiting a dermatologist. Or maybe they are new to town and wondering what the experience is like. At Dania Dermatology, Dr. Stanley Skopit and his team of professionals provide the best care for patients in need of assistance with the hair, skin, or nails.

When should I make an appointment with a dermatologist?

Some patients will connect with Dania Dermatology if they have been referred to our practice from their primary care physicians. Others will call the office directly to make an appointment instead of visiting their primary care physicians. New and established patients are both welcome at our office.

How do I prepare for my upcoming appointment?

Before patients arrive at the practice, they should make note of the medications, vitamins, supplements, and products they use that they can supply to the dermatologist. Patients should also bring their medical insurance cards, as many medical dermatology visits are covered in part or in full by insurance plans. We ask that patients arrive at the office approximately ten to fifteen minutes before their appointment to allow time to complete new patient intake paperwork for our front office team.

What can I expect during my appointment?

Visiting a dermatologist is much like making an appointment with your primary care provider. Patients will check in at the front desk and wait in the waiting room until they are called back by one of our nurses. The nurse will take vitals and quickly summarize the reason for your visit before summoning the dermatologist to the examination room for your evaluation.
